History of Itahari
Before development, Itahari was just a small forested and agricultural area in the Sunsari District. Different communities like the Tharu, Rai, and Limbu used to live here, relying on agriculture, fishing, and forest resources.
The major turning point of Itahari came after the construction of the Mahendra Highway, which connects the entire country. Later, the Koshi Highway also linked Itahari to hill regions like upper Dharan. Because of this quick development, Itahari quickly became a transportation junction, which increased trade, migration, and business activities in Itahari.
